12/17/2009

City Council approves Bill 090841

City Council voted to approve Bill 090841, allowing L&I to adopt the International Building Code effective January 1, 2010. Every section of the International Code was adopted except the International Plumbing Code, however, so that Philadelphia’s almost one hundred year old plumbing code still applies to building in the city.

L&I to adopt International Building Code effective January 1

Bill 090841, which would amend The Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code by adopting the 2009 edition of certain International Codes was voted out of committee December 10 and is expected to get final council approval December 17. View Bill 090841.

In its e-Voice newsletter, the Building Industry Association reported: “L&I will be adopting the International Building Code effective January 1, 2010. PVC piping is exempt, cast iron is still required, while sprinklers will be required in all single family homes. But L&I wants to work to adopt a combined sprinkler system that would allow the sprinkler heads to run off of the domestic water lines.”
