3/23/2011
Committee on Rules holds Bill 110134
Conflicting testimony from existing neighborhood groups, newer residents, and city officials puts the bill on hold. Supporters think the bill will help preserve the character of their neighborhood and prevent gentrification from pushing long-time residents out. Others say the legislation will discourage reinvestment. Councilman Kenney suggested another hearing be scheduled. Click here to view the hearing transcripts.

New legislation would prohibit the issuance of permits in Point Breeze
Councilmember Tasco introduced a bill that would amend Title 14 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled “Zoning and Planning,” by adding a new Section prohibiting the issuance of any permit for the construction of buildings, additions or roof decks, exceeding a certain height, on certain properties within the Point Breeze area of the City and providing that such prohibition shall expire after a specified period of time, all under certain terms and conditions. A public hearing of the Committee on Rules will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 10:00 AM, in Room 400, City Hall.
