Waterfront Zoning Approved by Planning Commission; Public Hearing June 3

05/20/2009 |

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the Central Delaware Riverfront Overlay District by City Council, along with legislation that would rezone parcels in the Old City/Northern Liberties/Fishtown section of the riverfront. The overlay district would create interim zoning regulations to be in effect until a detailed master plan of the central Delaware can be prepared. The proposed regulations establish use, setback, and waterfront access provisions for 1,146 acres of land along the waterfront. The current version of the bill includes a 100-foot building setback from the waterfront or 10 percent of the total lot area, whichever is less. A hearing in the Committee on Rules is scheduled for June 3 at 10:00 AM, Room 400, City Hall.
